Why the Redneck Swimming Pool Is so Popular With The Rest of Us
Posted On July 27, 2021
The pool has been the topic of numerous popular articles over the past year and a half.
The pool is not just a great place to swim but also an important social and recreational resource, and there’s even a video on YouTube explaining how to create your own pool.
In 2015, the pool’s popularity led to a petition to have the pool removed from its neighborhood and removed from the park.
In response, the city of Rockville, Maryland, passed a new ordinance in August that requires any pool, spa, or swimming facility that is not approved by the Maryland Department of Natural Resources and the Environmental Protection Agency to be taken down from the public parks.
While the park was initially going to be the final location for the pool, the park’s new mayor, Matt Brown, has recently decided to keep the pool and park in the city, according to WJLA.
In the meantime, there is no official announcement about the pool being pulled from the city’s parks department.
In 2018, a petition was signed by more than 6,000 people, and more than 600 people signed a petition calling for the removal of the pool from Rockville.
A similar petition was also signed by residents of Alexandria, Virginia, a suburb in the Virginia suburbs of Norfolk and Prince William.
