Swimming pools at the bottom of Seattle

Seattle — The most expensive pool in the world may be on its way out.
Seattle City Light, which runs the city’s water systems, is proposing to replace the iconic swimming pool at the Seattle Aquarium with a larger, $1.3 million, $3.4 million pool, according to a memo obtained by USA TODAY.
The pool, located at the north end of Seattle’s Westlake Park, has served as a gathering place for the public for over a century, but officials say it’s nearing the end of its life.
In an effort to address concerns that the pool was too expensive, the city is considering replacing it with a smaller, $2.5 million pool.
“There are several pools that are available that are just a fraction of what we are proposing,” said Rob Ruggiero, the director of the Water Resources Department.
“And while we have some of the best in the industry, we can’t always have everything.
We’re looking at pool options that offer more value.”
The city is also considering replacing the existing pool with a new pool that would be constructed in conjunction with the Seattle Department of Parks and Recreation.
A pool with an average pooling capacity of 200 people is proposed.
The proposed changes would cost about $400,000.
However, the pool’s replacement would cost $3 million.
That amount is a small fraction of the cost of replacing the pool, Ruggie said.
The replacement pool will be built as part of a larger project, which will include new facilities and landscaping for the park.
Ruggieros office says the pool would be built near the waterfront and would be accessible by car or bike.
The plan also calls for a new bike path to connect the pool to the park and an outdoor play area.
The new pool will also include a new water tower and two water-skiing holes.
The new pool is slated to open in 2019.
The original pool closed in 2010.
